Neil Simon's classic autobiographical comedy

One of America's favorite comic playwrights, Neil Simon, wrote this play as the first of an autobiographical trilogy centered around Eugene, a character that is the young Simon himself. Eugene is a fifteen-year-old who is not only preoccupied with girls and the Yankees, but is our guide to life with the Jerome family. This play, set late in the Great Depression, captures a few days in the life of a struggling Jewish household that includes Eugene's hard-working father, his sharp-tongued mother, his older and vastly more experienced brother, his widowed aunt, and her two young daughters. The members of the household are plagued with medical and financial problems, but Simon portrays the situation as neither miserable nor pitiful as the Jerome family meets its challenges with enormous spirit, dignity, and vigor. This is a deeply appealing play that deftly mixes drama with comedy.
