It’s a red hat, office party, ladies’ night out, book club, holiday or retirement…fun group thing.
Here at Topeka Civic Theatre, we don’t just welcome your group – we help you create a one-of-a-kind experience. Trust us. As the longest, continuously operating dinner theatre in the country, we’ve been hosting groups since 1936.
Tickets, Stages, Hours & FAQ
Topeka Civic Theatre is located in the beautiful old Gage Elementary School with two stages. Our sister theatre Helen Hocker Theater is located in Gage Park. All three stages bring unique and thrilling entertainment options to suit varied interests. Collectively we provide over 250 nights of entertainment and see over 40,000 guests each year. Come and experience the joy of live theatre.
To ensure everyone enjoys out theatre, wheel-chair accessible entrances, seating and restrooms are provided. Please let the Box Office know when reserving your tickets.
HEARING IMPAIRED SERVICES
The Sheffel Theatre (Mainstage) is equipped with a FM Listening System to aid patrons with hearing impairments. Headsets are available at no charge on a first-come, first-served basis. Ask your server for a headset upon arrival.
Topeka Civic Theatre has a no pet policy (unless, of course, they are acting on stage). Certified service animals, however, are more than welcome provided they do not disrupt the performance. Please alert the Box Office at the time of ticket purchase, so there is enough space to accommodate the furry friend.
Photography & Video
Prohibit the practice of video or audio recording of our production. Further more, flash cameras distract performers and audience members alike.
Additionally distracting is the use of cell phones, pagers and other electronic equipment. Most importantly, however, these devices can mess up our sound equipment. Turn them off during the performance. If you must be on-call, you need to leave your devices with your server who will notify you in case of an emergency.
WITH THAT SAID…
Once the show is over, please turn on your cell phones and tweet, Facebook live, post and more about the wonderful experience you had. Tag @TopekaCivicTheatre or use the show’s hashtag.
The show will go on unless a city-wide no-travel order is issue by the police. We’ve not had to cancel a performance for this reason for many many years. Should it happen all media outlets would be notified to make the announcement.
Emily Post would say....
Just some guidelines and suggestions to make your visit memorable.
TCT is a smoke-free environment. A designated smoking area is located outside the theatre to the south and marked. We appreciate your cooperation.
WHAT TO WEAR
Topeka Civic Theatre has been named Topeka’s favorite date night location, so it is a wonderful opportunity to dress up. The exception, of course, is if you choose to dress with the theme of the show. It’s not uncommon to see guests (and servers) dressed in ’80s rock attire when seeing Rock of Ages or to have a dozen Dorthy’s in the audience during The Wizard of Oz.
DINING AND DRINKS
The TCT Club staff work hard to make sure your night is a JOY. Please tip accordingly and don’t forget to consider the price of your meal, which is not reflected on your final ticket since you prepaid.
TCT offers an extensive wine list and offers take-home packaging so don’t hesitate to order that special bottle.
The way service flows on a Mainstage performance dinner night is as follows: Server takes drink order, then soup or salad order. You go through the buffet. Yum. Then about 30 minutes (no less than 15 minutes), your server will take your intermission order. This is when you need to order desserts, drinks or snacks that you’d like delivered during intermission. Your check will arrive during intermission and your server will be back at the end of the show to settle up.
The joy of live theatre is ageless. However, some productions are best suited for different audiences.
TCT ACADEMY & TYA
Our youth productions are held in the Oldfather Theatre and are tailored for children of any age. The shows are around one hour in length and tailored for our budding stars.
TCT MAINSTAGE & STUDIO
Our Mainstage and Studio shows run approximately two hours in length and most are not suited for children under the age of four. If a show contains adult content or strong language, we will post a warning on the show page.
Laugh Lines – adult content / high school age and up
The Freshman Class – family-friendly improv comedy
Senior Class – family-friendly improv comedy
WTCT Radio Players – family-friendly improv comedy
