Local live theatre, performed for the community, by the community.
WHEN TO ARRIVE
Doors open at 6pm for all Mainstage shows. We suggest your arrive at least 30 minutes prior to curtain. The TCT Club takes pre-show and intermission orders up to 10 minutes before curtain. If you arrive after, we are not able to guarantee service prior to curtain.
MAINSTAGE + DINNER
The buffet line is open from 6:30 – 7:30pm Friday & Saturday nights. (You must reserve your dinner through the Box Office prior.) We recommend you arrive between 6:20 and 6:45pm for the most relaxed, enjoyable theatre experience.
To ensure everyone enjoys out theatre, wheel-chair accessible entrances, seating and restrooms are provided. Please let the Box Office know when reserving your tickets.
HEARING IMPAIRED SERVICES
The Sheffel Theatre (Mainstage) is equipped with a FM Listening System to aid patrons with hearing impairments. Headsets are available at no charge on a first-come, first-served basis. Ask your server for a headset upon arrival.
Topeka Civic Theatre has a no pet policy (unless, of course, they are acting on stage). Certified service animals, however, are more than welcome provided they do not disrupt the performance. Please alert the Box Office at the time of ticket purchase, so there is enough space to accommodate the furry friend.
PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEO
Prohibit the practice of video or audio recording of our production. Further more, flash cameras distract performers and audience members alike.
Additionally distracting is the use of cell phones, pagers and other electronic equipment. Most importantly, however, these devices can mess up our sound equipment. Turn them off during the performance. If you must be on-call, you need to leave your devices with your server who will notify you in case of an emergency.
WITH THAT SAID…
Once the show is over, please turn on your cell phones and tweet, Facebook live, post and more about the wonderful experience you had. Tag @TopekaCivicTheatre or use the show’s hashtag.
EMILY POST WOULD SAY...
TCT is a smoke-free environment. A designated smoking area is located outside the theatre to the south and marked. We appreciate your cooperation.
WHAT TO WEAR
Topeka Civic Theatre has been named Topeka’s favorite date night location, so it is a wonderful opportunity to dress up. The exception, of course, is if you choose to dress with the theme of the show. It’s not uncommon to see guests (and servers) dressed in ’80s rock attire when seeing Rock of Ages or to have a dozen Dorthy’s in the audience during The Wizard of Oz.
DINING AND DRINKS
The TCT Club staff work hard to make sure your night is a JOY. Please tip accordingly and don’t forget to consider the price of your meal, which is not reflected on your final ticket since you prepaid.
TCT offers an extensive wine list and offers take-home packaging so don’t hesitate to order that special bottle.
The way service flows on a Mainstage performance dinner night is as follows: Server takes drink order, then soup or salad order. You go through the buffet. Yum. Then about 30 minutes (no less than 15 minutes), your server will take your intermission order. This is when you need to order desserts, drinks or snacks that you’d like delivered during intermission. Your check will arrive during intermission and your server will be back at the end of the show to settle up.
The joy of live theatre is ageless. However, some productions are best suited for different audiences.
TCT ACADEMY & TYA
Our youth productions are held in the Oldfather Theatre and are tailored for children of any age. The shows are around one hour in length and tailored for our budding stars.
TCT MAINSTAGE & STUDIO
Our Mainstage and Studio shows run approximately two hours in length and most are not suited for children under the age of four. If a show contains adult content or strong language, we will post a warning on the show page.
Laugh Lines – recommended audience members high school age and up
The Freshman Class – family-friendly improv comedy
Senior Class – family-friendly improv comedy
WTCT Radio Players – family-friendly improv comed
If you are not sure if a show is appropriate for you or a guest, please contact the Box Office who will offer guidance.
If you need to exchange your ticket for another performance, you may do so up to 24 hours in advanced by calling the Box Office. If you can not give us 24 hour notice, we encourage you gift your tickets to family or friends as we are not able to provide refunds.
The Show Must Go On
The show will go on unless a city-wide no-travel order is issue by the police. We’ve not had to cancel a performance for this reason for many many years. Should it happen all media outlets would be notified to make the announcement.
WELCOME TO THE JOY OF FLEXIBLE TICKETS
A Topeka Civic Theatre Season Membership is a flexible bank of eight (8) tickets. You may use those tickets in any configuration for any of our eight Mainstage productions within that season. This allows you to see each Mainstage production once, take a guest and see four shows or even take the entire family to one production. Plus, the cost of a Season Membership is like buying seven tickets and getting one free.
Season Memberships are not just for the Mainstage. KIDS Club is a youth Season Membership that provides you access to all of TCT’s Academy and TYA (Theatre for Young Audiences) productions. The cost is $48 per year and you receive a flexible bank of six (6) tickets for the season plus the other great Season Membership benefits like discounted Academy classes and camps and early reservations. Buy a KIDS Club membership for a future star as a gift or something you can use together.
