Topeka Civic Theatre’s Academy offers theatre classes year-round. During the summer we offer half-day and full-day camps for children ages 4 to 18. During the school year, we offer three classes that meet once a week for actors age 4 to grade 8.

THE EXPERIENCE

Auditions: Don’t worry – everyone gets a part and we’ll help prepare every student
Rehearsal process that ends with a final performance for family, friends and fans
Develop music skills during music activities and rehearsals
Enhance their dance skills during dance rehearsals
Explore technical aspects including set, costume and prop designing and building

BROADWAY SPROUTS: AGES 4-6
Ignite your child’s imagination and introduce your young actor to the world of theatre. during this class, we’ll create characters, act out stories, sing songs, rehearse and perform a play on stage for friends, family and fans at the end of the session.
THE CIVIC STARS: GRADES 2 - 4
This exploration of theatre will build on the basic skills and foster a deeper understanding of all the elements that are needed to be a successful performer. It will focus on each student’s needs and help them discover their “inner-actor” as they work as a group and individually. They will audition, rehearse, and perform a play on the last day of class.
PERFORMANCE EXPERIENCE: GRADES 5 - 8
This class introduces the students to the background and traditions of theatre. The course is designed to let you practice the craft of acting, and to help you to develop your imagination and creativity using various theatre games and improvisations. We will hold auditions, rehearse, and perform a show on the last day of class.
